Is English pronunciation really so difficult?
On 1 April, eight students from the class of 2K went to The Education University of Hong Kong for an English public lecture. Held by the Faculty of Humanities, the lecture was named ‘Is English pronunciation really so difficult’. Ms. Clairine Chan and Dr. Regine Lai from the Department of English Language Education gave the lecture. They shared with the audience some common pronunciation problems made by Hong Kong English learners. Dr. Lai used some concrete examples to illustrate the difficulties of pronouncing certain English words for Cantonese speakers. Ms. Chan specially demonstrated to our students the use of intonation and stress at both word and sentence level. She also introduced some helpful and useful strategies to teaching and learn English pronunciation. Thanks to her humorous way of delivering the messages, our students found the lecture easy to understand and meaningful to their language development.
